The announcement of the «maximum» version always attracts the attention of a wide range of people, even those who initially planned to buy the younger model. This time, Apple has made a significant bet on the photo and video capabilities of its flagship.
Screen diagonals and linear dimensions of smartphones are as follows:
- 13 Pro: 2532×1170 dots, 6.1 inches diagonal. Weight 203 grams, dimensions 146.7×71.5×7.65 mm,
- 13 Pro Max: 2778×1284 dots, 6.7 inches diagonal. Weight 228 grams, dimensions 160.8×78.1×7.65 mm.
The difference is not very significant compared to previous generation. Both devices are slightly thicker (7.65 mm versus 7.4 mm), and the Pro version has also become heavier (203 grams versus 189 grams).
The «notch» have been reduced by about 20 %.
The composition of the cameras remains unchanged (ultra-wide lens, telephoto lens and main module), but their characteristics have been improved:
- Dimensions of the main sensors: main module — f/1.5, ultra-wide — f/1.8, telephoto lens — f/2.8,
- Each of the modules has a night mode,
- Optical zoom range increased to x6,
- The new macro mode allows you to shoot from a distance of just 2 centimeters.
Sensor-shift is available in both models.
There are significant changes in the software: for example, the «Cinema Effect» mode allows you to change the depth of field already on the captured video. The professional ProRes format (optimal compression, high image quality) will also be available soon, with the iPhone 13 Pro going to be able to complete the entire movie production cycle in this format.
New SoC and battery life
The heart of the new flagships is the updated SoC A15 Bionic, manufactured using a five-nanometer process technology. The A15 Bionic consists of six CPU cores (Apple reports a 50 % advantage over competitors) and five GPU cores (a 30 % advantage is reported here). The Neural Engine has been enhanced to perform up to 15.8 trillion operations per second.
Despite this dramatic performance boost, battery life is said to have improved dramatically. The Max version is capable of working 2.5 hours longer than its predecessor, and the regular Pro version is 1.5 hours longer.
Both models can be purchased with classic storage capacities: 128GB / 256GB / 512GB. In addition, a 1TB model is available for the first time.
The cost for the USA without a contract starts at 999 USD for the Pro version and from 1099 USD for the Pro Max version.
